Recently, I had the opportunity to give an extensive interview to Wandel-Vakanties.nl, a platform that puts travel organizations for walking holidays in the spotlight. In their series of interviews with travel entrepreneurs, I was asked to tell more about Portucale, my background, and the vision behind our walking holidays in Portugal.
In the interview, I explain how my childhood in Trás-os-Montes, in northern Portugal, remains a major source of inspiration for the trips I organize. I grew up surrounded by mountains, villages, and the countryside, and it is precisely this connection to the landscape, culture, and community that I try to capture in Portucale's walking tours.
In addition, I explain how the idea arose to combine my Portuguese roots with my entrepreneurial experience in the Netherlands. This ultimately led to Portucale: a travel organization that organizes small-scale walking tours where nature, culture, and gastronomy come together.
The interview also discusses the differences between group tours and individual hiking trips, special regions such as Trás-os-Montes and Peneda-Gerês, and the power of hiking as a way to truly get to know a country. Not only through the landscape, but also through encounters with local people, traditions, and flavors.
Are you curious about the full story behind Portucale and my love for the north of Portugal?
